Coding Tools and Environments
Introduction to Computer Science currently references the original version of CodeSkulptor. This version uses Python 2 but is compatible with all course lessons and activities in Python 3. Codeskulptor recently released a new IDE for Python 3, called CodeSkulptor3. It can also be used at a basic level with all course lessons and activities. The course has not transitioned to CodeSkulptor3 yet, due to some bugs in the CodeSkulptor3 interface. We don't feel comfortable moving the course over until these are addressed.
The completed code is then submitted and auto-graded through the Sandbox, which is entirely web-based and integrated directly into the online course platform. For more information on CodeSkulptor and the Sandbox, please click here.
Items to Whitelist
Students and teachers will need to access the following in order to be able to complete code activities and participate in the course. When speaking with your school's IT department, be sure to include the asterisks as shown.

The course is best viewed at a minimum of 1024x600, which is the average size of a notebook computer. The interface was optimized for desktop displays, so using small form factors such as phones may not provide a pleasant user experience.

We recommend always using the newest version of any browser. Supported browsers include:

We recommend always using the latest version of any screen reader. Please note there is no screen reader support for this course in Chrome.
Edhesive does not currently have Closed Captioning available on the videos for this course at this time.
Using Tablets and Chromebooks
Edhesive works great on Chromebooks and no workarounds are necessary to complete the coursework on a Chromebook.
iPads and tablets are not ideal for the course regardless of the browser being used. The course platform is not fully supported on mobile browsers so features may not function as expected compared to viewing the course in a fully supported desktop or laptop browser.
A workaround for iPads and tablets that some schools have found useful for students who do not have access to desktop or laptop browsers during the day is to watch the videos during class time on their iPads or tablets, and then access a home or shared desktop or laptop after school to complete the coding work.
Grading and Rostering Systems
Edhesive does not currently have support for directly integrating or linking the course platform with outside grading and rostering systems. However, the gradebook for a course can be exported by teachers at any time by following the steps outlined in this Help Center here: click to view article.
Supported Single Sign-Ons
Edhesive has an option to create accounts and log into the course platform using Google Single Sign-On and Clever Single Sign-On.
For Clever SSO, Edhesive can also be found in the Clever Application Portal in addition to the Clever SSO button being available on the Edhesive signup and login pages.
User Accounts and Enrollment
Teachers gain access to the course platform by setting up their accounts and entering their unique section token(s) for their course(s) using the instructions sent to them in their welcome email. For a reference guide on the process in our Help Center, please click here.
Students also create their own accounts and enroll themselves in their teacher's course(s). Click here for instructions in our Help Center on how students will do this, including downloadable PDF instructions to distribute to students.
Edhesive uses YouTube and Vimeo to embed videos into the course platform. For schools that block YouTube and/or Vimeo, the platform will detect this and display a video hosted by Edhesive instead as a fallback. Access to this fallback system is covered by the "Items to Whitelist" section earlier in this document.
If YouTube and/or Vimeo is blocked and the fallback videos do not automatically show, simply click the "Download Video" link underneath the video. This will open the video directly from the fallback player in a new tab. The video can also then be downloaded and saved for offline viewing.
